SEO - A Search Engine Spiders Favorite Things

There is no foolproof way to please the search engines but there are different things that you can do to make sure that they don’t ignore you. Here is a breakdown of just a few of a search engine spider’s favorite things –

A site that has a generous amount of content. The more loaded your site is the more attractive it will be to the search engines. A site with unique content, which means that it is not stale or plagiarized. If the content has never been seen on the Internet at all then that is all the better. Sites that are user-friendly and well organized – this tells the spiders that you are up and running for business.

Sites that contain indexes to links that contain information from other popular sites (that are not in competition with you.) Sites that consistently refresh or change their content. If your site is consistently evolving that will be noted by the search engine spiders and raise your rankings in the search engine page. Sites that have pages that are easily read. This means sites that are well designed and that do not contain pages full of javascript, flash animation, too many photos or graphics or banners. Sites that have a niche.

These types of tightly themed sites also show the search engine spiders that you mean business as you are offering unique information or a product that nobody else has. If you can make your site seem like it has expert content that is all the better.

Keep in mind that the more of the above principles to do with search engine optimization that you adopt the better off you will be in the long run when it comes to looking attractive to the big search engine bots that determine how your site will be ranked.

Search Engine Submission Warning

Search engine submission should be used cautiously, if at all. In fact, it may be advisable to simply use the method of being linked to by another web site that is listed..If your webpage is considered to be worthy of listing to someone using a specific form of words in their search, or keyword, then it will be listed; it will be listed even if you have not submitted it. A search engine is not a website directory, which requires a site to be submitted and approved before it can be listed.

There is another aspect of search engine submission that many people do not understand. How often have you seen adverts for “Search Engine Submission to 100+ Major Search Engines” or “Submission to 1000s of Search Engines”? These adverts are total nonsense. There are three major search engines, or perhaps four. Google, Yahoo and MSN are the major ones, and possibly Ask. All others get their information from these three.

There are a lot of website directories that can be used for a search, but they are not search engines. A true search engine can search throughout the internet for websites with domains that are registered with the DNS on the World Wide Web, and if the search engine algorithm believes that the web page contains sufficiently unique information relative to s specific keyword, it will be included in its index. It is that index which is searched in a search engine enquiry.

A web directory searches only those websites that are registered with that directory. Until recently, Yahoo was a web directory, but now it does have a true search engine. All the minor search engines get their results from Google, Yahoo or MNS.

So, is search engine submission worth it? Probably not, especially if you pay for it. A true search engine will find you organically and when it does you will be given more credit in your listing if you have not tried to force the issue by submitting it. You can help by providing Google and Yahoo Site Maps, but submissions are not necessary and there is no need to pay from them.

Search Engine Submission

Search Engine Submission is very important in order to insure that you get a better pageranking as well as better exposure. Using the search engine submission program will ensure that your site is “approved” by the search engine.

This is a vital yet often overlooked procedure by many web designers. The reason, this could make or break your site is simple, if you haven’t designed your SEO up to the standards of the specific search engine that you are using you can be banned from that engine.

This is often overlooked as people “try” to out do the system by not following the procedures and not out of spite (though some are) but because they simply aren’t aware of the procedures or that there even are ones in place.

With so many people online and new websites being created virtually every minute, there has to be some form of “law”. Search Engine Submission provides the “law” that the internet needs. Using the search engine submission process will greatly benefit you in making sure that you have adhered to all the request and guidelines of that search engine.

Though the process can be sometimes longer than you would like, in the end, it can be the difference in your website being available for viewing at all! Simple steps can be taken to make the Internet is an easier place to get around. Using and following SEO and search engine submissions will greatly benefit and increase the traffic that comes to your site!

Easy Search Engine Optimization

When people search for something online, they type the keyword or key phrase in the popular search engines, which give them an extensive list of sites relevant to that search. Now to make your website visible in the first set of search results, it needs to have a good page rank. Search engine optimization is the means to this end, the branch of activity which aims at enhancing this rank of a website with some structured strategies. Most owners of sites invest a fortune and valuable time in creating a web presence, but sadly, they fail to consider the more important aspect that is, how the website will come to the notice of web-users.

Long back it was just a matter of some time to launch a site design it, fill it up with nice content and submit it into some directories it was as simple as that! And search engines would also give good ranking to that website for the keywords featuring in the body-text of the web page.

And since the number of websites present then were not even half as much of what is there now and since the techniques of optimizing a site in search engines were not as improved, keywords could be repeated along with other otherwise refutable maneuvers like creating many domains with the same content. And this too ensured those sites a good position in the popular search engines.

But things have come a long way from that now. There has been a dramatic change in the search engine marketing scenario. Today, just ordinary designing, content and submission wont help; the website owner needs to do his homework study the various types of relevant keywords typed in search engines like Google, Yahoo or MSN and then fashion his/her website accordingly so that the website ranks well enough to be viewed by the majority of people. And because today people tend to look for everything online and keep searching for the right goods and services till they find it, the search engine optimization is a big challenge, although with some amount of risk involved.

Now web presence is something very important here. If you are stepping into the online scene, your website needs to have a web presence. If not, you have a disfavor. The search engines, particularly Google, do not prefer giving high ranks to new domains. Position improves with time, as the website becomes old.

So obviously, websites which are older in time and already have a secured web presence, stand a better chance of getting higher ranks in the search engine. Listed below are some of the key factors for achieving the top positions in search engines.

Clean Codes: All search engines prefer a neatly coded website. When a webpage is designed in MS Word, it generates untidy html code. This is not a good thing. Also, website owners need to be careful about the WYSIWYG editors. Some use proprietary tags in the html and thus become uncongenial to the search engines.

Content: No saying would suffice for the stupendous importance of proper content that helps a website to score high in the search engines. Content is the backbone for any site. Search engines often look for relevant keywords or phrases in the body text of a webpage to identify those with the searched words/phrases. If found, your website is considered relevant for those keywords and you can expect a pretty good rank.

Tags: Yet another very vital aspect in html coding is the title tags and meta-description tags. To give your website a decent search engine position, these tags must contain the relevant keywords which you think users will look for.

Linking: Simply put, linking means other websites linking to your website. Now how would that help, you ask? This is good for your website precisely because the search engines consider each related link on your site as a given vote. The logic is easy if site X links to site Y, it obviously follows that site Y is of some value or worthy of it. These links can either come from important directories like Yahoo! or Dmoz, or from other related websites. For instance, if your website promotes clothes, a link from a fashion houses website would be relevant and count as a good vote in search engine parameters. However, exchanging links with questionable sites like link farms is not appreciated. Link farms are considered worthless in the sense that these are directories that just collect links without any valuable content in them. So whenever you add links to your website, ensure that those links have your targeted keywords in their anchor text.

Search Engine Marketing - The Basics

The rules of the game called search engine marketing change really, really fast. So in this high acceleration of change, how do you stay tuned?

The hardest part of search engine marketing is to crack the Google algorithm. All the discussions, debates and research on content optimization, keyword selection, title creation, link exchange and more are all too familiar among the website owners now. And it does seem at times that the search engines elude you and your understanding because the moment you think you caught up with them, you find you are in the same abyss of yesterday, trying to grope the right way out.

The clever search engines keep moving forwards and with some very real reasons, beyond the otherwise sadistic ones. In a way, these come down to two simple yet mutually conflicting factors

Competition: online businesses are growing everyday, by the minute.

Expectation: Web-users, today, visit websites with lofty expectations. As it is the search engines that drive them to visit sites, they expect the sites referred thus, to be extremely relevant to their searches.

In a nutshell, it can be safely said that since the online competition is high with so many websites trying to outdo one another and make their mark in the online arena, the search engines are somehow compelled to change their algorithms from time to time to serve its users better with more comprehensively. They, however, do not intend to make things hard for website owners or optimizers; they only change algorithms to provide more accurate and more helpful search results to the users, so that they get the best information even in this highly competitive online business market.

Evidently then, you can see that the search engines are overtly user-centric. And this does give webmasters and search engine marketers the most obvious clue as to what to do to get ahead in the game and stay there too. While it is of course important to keep track of the changing algorithms, you also need to focus on the users, your potential customers, analyze their needs and think of ways to fulfill those through your website. Compared to links and algorithms, you got to concentrate more on user-needs because that is one surefire way to take your search engine marketing at its helm.

Donning this coveted marketing label, there are five things that you need to consider now:

Working with other sites: Much in keeping with the coffee-shop-in-the-bookstore concept, you can fill up the void in another website to benefit both ends. It is quite smart to work with other websites and set up individual businesses in each others business outer space with one symbiotic approach.

Deep links: It is always essential to take the visitors exactly to what they have been searching for. Using deep links comes in handy here. Therefore, keep deep links for both your organic and paid listings, so that viewers do not have to hunt for what they actually need.

Publicity pieces: Well-written publicity pieces like articles and press releases allow you to accommodate the important and top search words for your website. But you must also make the piece a good, helpful, informative and interesting read, if you want it to be an effective marketing tool.

Directories: While choosing business directories, you must go for those having the best custom. Instead of just another plain link, you should be in the look-out for good referrals.

Anchor links: Anchor texts are links and information that you give out to other websites. Now, getting links is not the supreme objective, it is more important to draw the custom that gives more profit. So you may also spare a thought about using anchor texts that pertain to your users needs or to the topics in the page visited.

Search Engine Optimization Best Practice DO IT RIGHT

Search engine optimization will help you turn your website into the most efficient business sales or marketing tool. To be able to take full advantage of what search engine optimization can bring your business website, you can teach yourself how to do it or you can seek the input of S E O professionals.

Search engine optimization by yourself

One option available to you is doing your own search engine optimization. Obviously, this course of action is highly desirable if you want to save money on professional costs. This course of action is also prescribed to somebody who wants to learn S E O.

If you want to do your own S E O, you will need to teach yourself the basics of S E O and its more advanced techniques. To do this, you can frequent and become a member of internet S E O sites and internet organizations. Through these free online resources, you will learn a lot about S E O, search engine submission, keyword optimization, page ranking, search engine results pages (S E R P) positions, etc. All you will ever need to know about S E O, it seems, is available in the internet, so you can apparently teach yourself how to do S E O.

If you think about it, though, knowing the concepts and knowing the theories will not be much help in the cutthroat field of the internet. First of all, you may not have the time to completely revamp your website and do your much-needed S E O. If you do have the time, however, you may not have sufficient skills for effective S E O.
Search engine optimization is a comprehensive and highly-coordinated task. Your main goal in S E O is to get your page ranking up in every major search engine in the internet. The internet resources you have been reading will tell you that to do this, you need to optimize your website content and codes for keywords. How do you know which keyword to target? Conceivably, you can learn about keyword from free resources like Google Ad Words keyword tool or Yahoo,s keyword select tool, but up to what extent can you expect these tools to be reliable?

Search engine optimization also requires more than keyword optimization. You also need to be able to build inbound links form other relevant and highly-positioned web pages to yours. This is very easy to do, in theory. In reality, though, you are likely going to be fighting for or paying through the nose for every quality back link you get.

S E O by yourself is theoretically easy but practically fraught with pitfalls for the S E O amateur. If you try doing your own search engine optimization, in the end, you may end up paying more money for pitiable results.

S E O by S E O Professionals

S E O professionals will know where to go for conclusive and accurate search engine information; they will have an extensive and comprehensive action plan for your website; and they promise results. Since this is their job, they have to be good at it or miss out on a lot of business opportunities. Therefore, they keep themselves up to date with S E O matters and continue to improve on their strategies.

Simply put, if you want professional results you need to let professionals do it. More than the theoretical search engine optimization knowledge which you can gain through extensive study, search engine optimization professionals have experience and practical knowledge, and this makes all the difference.

SEO Strategy - The Search Engine

Whether you are a small business owner who needs to do things cheaply or just someone who wants to get the site someplace where people can see it, this guide has something for you. The idea of having a web presence is to allow people, who aren’t local, have access to the information you are presenting, the product you are selling or the service you are providing. Search engine strategy is the way to get noticed on the web. Here are some useful tips and explanations to help you in getting started with having a successful search engine strategy.

Determine keywords

Pick Domain name

Titles

Meta tags

Content

Step one to a successful web presence using SEO.

Determine the keywords that apply to your site. Keywords and phrases are those words or phrases, entered into a search engine when someone is searching for something on the web. Keywords are one of the key components of SEO. Take time to research all the various types of entries that your product or subject matter might be searched on and create a list.

The next step is to pick a relevant domain.

What this means is that, when deciding the domain for your site, you should pick something or create something that has the main keyword or one of the key words for your site in it. This will come in handy later with your SEO strategy.

When someone is searching through a list of sites that are produced by a search engine, usually, the first thing that will grab their attention will be the title of your website. Be sure to optimize the potential of your site with SEO strategies by using the main keywords for your site in the titles of your pages. This will help you to create a high ranking on the search engines.

Another asset, though less valuable than it used to be, are Meta tags. Including keywords in the descriptive section of the Meta tags, is a key component to using Meta tags in your SEO tactics.

Content is the key to any SEO strategy. It is important when writing content for your site that your key phrases are placed within the first several lines of text. Most search engines as well as people look at these first few lines. Following through from your domain, title and Meta tags with your content will solidify your SEO strategy.

No matter who you are, having a solid SEO strategy is key to making your presence on the World Wide Web known. Take your time to put your key words together, pick your domain and create your site. Doing these steps will ensure you become a success on the Internet.

Search Engine Optimization - How to Optimize a Blog

If you blog to create business leads, or for customer relationships, then optimizing your blog is a must. In this article, we will look at some relatively easy ways for you to do this.

First, understand that if you know how to optimize a website, then you should have no trouble optimizing your blog. Some of the principles are the same. For example, use your keywords and keyword phrases frequently, but remember to use them appropriately. Incorporate these keywords into your URL and titles. I recommend that you have links to at least twenty of your archived posts on your main blog page. The titles should contain your keywords.

Second, focus on your content. It is not enough to simply write. Write for a purpose. Actually, write for two purposes. The first purpose is to provide useful content for your reader. Give them something of value. Give them something that will bring them back to your blog. The second purpose is to provide a regular source of fresh content for search engine crawlers.

Third, do some networking with blogs that compliment your blog in some way. Ask the owners of other blogs to link exchange with you. Remember, search engines look for popular sites and bump them up in search engine rankings. So, the more blogs that link to your site, the greater the chances are that your blog will find favor with the search engines.

Finally, consider paid advertising as a means for increasing traffic to your site. There are several good commercial blog service sites that can generate traffic for you. Your job is to turn the traffic they generate into repeat readers who will generate additional word-of-mouth traffic for you.

Search Engine Optimization Tips - How To Use Deep Links To Improve Your Rankings

Most people have heard of one way links and reciprocal links but there is another way to improve your rankings in the search engines by using an advanced strategy called deep linking, but how do you implement it?

The more natural your linking strategy is the better your results will be. To achieve this you need to combine both inbound links and deep links in your overall campaign. In simple terms, you need incoming one way links to not only your home page but also individual pages on your website.

For instance, if a visitor liked an article or report on your website and wanted to recommend it they would link to the specific page. This is a more natural way of linking and this is one of the factors that search engines use to rank websites.

Its best to aim for a minimum of 30% of the overall inbound links to be deep links. If your website has unique quality content the number of deep links will increase over time. If there are no articles or reports on your website or if the quality of your content is extremely bad you will not receive any deep links. People are only going to link to a specific page if it has unique quality content or if it offers a free gift (such as ebooks or software).

Unfortunately, people rarely link to a website on a voluntary basis. Most links are reciprocal meaning that two websites partner together and link to each other so you will need to find link partners by searching for related websites in the search engines. The results pages should contain thousands of websites related to the keyword.

Its far better to have a link from a specific page that is related to your website than just the home page so you will need to find a page that has relevant content and ask for a link back to your page. You are getting a link from a specific page that is related to a specific page on your website. Both deep links should be reciprocal and point to each other for best results.

You should also use anchor text within each link instead of just inserting the website address. This attracts visitors to click on the link and also improves the ranking of your website in the search engines for that keyword phrase. Website owners will be more likely to give you a link if you tell them that you are limiting the number of links on your page to five or ten to prevent over saturation.

There are many benefits of using deep links:

1. You will increase the link popularity of pages within your website other than your home page (index page).

2. The value of the links on your page will increase because each one is highly targeted and related to the content.

3. Because people actually visit these pages the links will generate traffic for each of the partners (everybody wins).

4. You have more chance of getting a link from a website that receives more traffic because its from a relevant page.

Don't underestimate the power of deep linking as it can work extremely well and consistently generate free traffic. This is a real traffic exchange and not just a link dump. By linking to specific pages you will stand out from the crowd and other website owners will regard you as a pro and not a novice who is just sending out generic emails and accepting any link on any subject for their link directory.

Because deep linking is advanced and different, some website owners will not understand its power and refuse to exchange links. If this happens, try to explain the benefits to them and if they still refuse just move on to the next person.

Duplicate Pages And Search Engines

Most of us been there when it comes to duplicate pages. You may have news, articles from news companies that provide you with the news feed. Or you might have your website designed by third party that uses same tools on all their clients' websites.

But did you know that this duplicate content can lower your search engine ranking? It today SEO driven website world it is important to avoid duplicate content as much as possible.

What are duplicate pages for search engines?

It is obvious that duplicate means same as something else. For search engines it means same exact page, same exact title, keywords etc. Search Engines send their spiders, for example Google's spider is called googlebot, Yahoo has yahoo slurp, to crawl your website for content or information. These spiders look for certain information: What is this page about? Is it relevant to your website at all? etc.

If any of these search engines find same content on a different website, it starts to compare the content. First is looks when this content was indexed and from website it was submitted first to search engines. Than it starts to look for links. Are there any links on these pages that point to same source? This way search engine can determine who is the priority website and assigned a higher rank to that site.

But what about rest of the web-sites? What will happen to them? If you have an articles, news that are duplicate content you website will go lower in search engines. It may take some time until search engine actually visits your website and assigns a duplicate content filter. Search engines will simple filter your website out of their search.

What if you pay a licensing fee for these articles!

The only way for search engines such as Google to understand this, is when you e-mail them and explain about your content. You will need to do a re-inclusion request.

What if you like free articles published on different article sites!

No matter what you do, search engine will hit you with duplicate content, however you can teach search engine about your content.

First, reduce number of articles that you have copied. Get some new fresh well written articles. Make sure that majority of your content is your own and rest is articles.

Second, articles must be related to your field. If you write about real estate, make sure you stick with real estate, finance articles only. Show search engines that you have categories and your readers benefit from these articles.

Third, do a re-inclusion request and wait. In few weeks you should see some movement in your site ranking. If it is not improving, reduce the number of articles again.

With free articles is cat and mouse game all over. It is hard to figure out as how algorithm is set in Google for duplicate content as well as how Google deals with re-produced articles that you can freely post anywhere.

What if you have a website that was designed by third company?

Most website companies use same templates or similar templates. That is they give you and rest of their clients same and exact FAQ pages, About Us pages, etc.

You want to avoid this as soon as possible. Always rewrite these articles by yourself. This way you will create unique pages for your website.

Duplicate content is one of the biggest mistakes many webmasters do when it comes to creating websites. Always try to create your own posts and if you really want to expand your article base, make sure you provide a valuable content to your users, not just another article website.

Longtail – A Beginners Guide to Search Engine Marketing

The “Longtail” is based on statistical phenomena where less common events can cumulatively become more significant than high frequency events. In a business this would mean the top 20 selling items in a shop might collectively make £1000 in revenue but the other less popular items cumulatively make £1500.

This can be applied in the world of PPC too. At the moment you might have 50 well performing keywords if you were to increase your keyword list to 1000 you could benefit from the longtail. Each keyword might only earn a small fraction of your top performing keywords but in total they can be more lucrative.

There are four great reasons why it’s worth advertising on the longtail

Cheaper – PPC advertising is built around the auction model. The more desirable the keyword is the more people are willing to pay for it. As PPC has become more competitive obvious keywords have in many sectors become prohibitively expensive. Advertisers are less likely to advertise on longtail phrases they are cheaper. This means you can afford more clicks.

More specific – If you were the owner of a hotel, it might make sense to advertise on the keyword hotel. But what if the searcher is looking for a hotel in a different city, or in different price bracket? By mining the longtail you can bring traffic to your site that is more likely to be happy with your content. As you pay for every click it’s in your interests to make sure every click is worth its cost.

Less Competitive – When anyone searches on a generic phrase they are greeted by a large number of organic and paid results. In this kind of environment your ad copy has to work much harder to draw attention. With less competition it’s easier to stand out and get searchers to click.

More Likely to Convert – Normally the longer a search term is the more likely the search is to convert into a sale. This is because longer terms tend to show that the user is further along the buying process, they may have done some research & have a clear idea of what they are looking for. Would you rather have a visit from a searcher looking for a “car” or “BMW 3 series 100,000 miles Brighton”?

There are main benefits of understanding the possibilities of the longtail. We can learn a lot from the statistical phenomena which can help every business’s bottom line.

Search Engine Optimization – Off-Page Optimization

If you have ever wondered how important off-page optimization is, then ask yourself this question. Why do major companies put their brands on tee shirts, coffee mugs, and other items? Because, it is effective brand advertisement! The more the message is seen, the more likely it is that customers will buy their products.

The same principle applies to off-page optimization for websites. However, instead of using tee-shirts, mugs, etc, the SEO typically uses links included on other websites to do the branding. This technique accomplishes two functions. First, it opens additional ports through which potential customers can come to your website. Second, the major search engines use the links from other sites to help establish the popularity of the site being linked to. They then use this popularity to help determine the ranking for that site.

To really evaluate the importance of this off-page optimization, consider the effort and money that Google, Yahoo, and other companies put into getting a link to their sites from other websites. Google’s AdSence ads are seen on websites all over the world. So are Ebay ads. Why? The answer is branding and search engine optimization.

There are a number of ways to get your site linked from other websites. Affiliate programs, free directories, link exchanges and partnerships with other relevant websites. Whichever option that you choose to use, be careful to make sure that the linking site is relevant to yours. Search engines do evaluate the relevancy. You will also want to be mindful of the sites that carry your link. If those sites are not in sync with the moral, ethical, and philosophical standards that you set, then your reputation could be at risk.

Search Engine Optimization - On-Page Techniques

Achieving top search engine rankings is critical to the success of any web site. It has been widely reported that a web site must be ranked within the first three pages of search engine listings in order to generate enough site visits to become successful. Competition for these tops rankings is stiff, and only those sites that make good use of on-page SEO techniques stand a chance of achieving the coveted rankings.

Let’s examine a few of these on-page techniques for a better understanding of their role and how they may or may not impact a web site’s page ranking. The first technique is the effective use of content on the page. The content should include your keywords and phrases, but should be used in a way that makes sense, and that appears natural to both the visitor and the search engine algorithm. Search engine algorithms are sensitive to the over use of keywords, and may penalize a web site with a lower ranking if it suspects the site of deliberately doing this.

Unethical use of on-page techniques may lower a site’s ranking, or even lead to the site being banned by the search engine. Hiding repetitive keywords by giving the text and background the same color is one example of the unethical use of an on-page technique.

In my opinion a great deal of time and effort should be given to these techniques. They can make or break a web site. Used properly they can lead to higher rankings, used improperly, or unethically, they can lower a site’s ranking

Search Engine Optimization, Step Two: Create (or Refine) Your Meta Description

A Meta Description's overall purpose is to provide a brief explanation of a site and most importantly, to name the major items being sold. It can help rankings in search engines in providing more relevance to a site by giving spiders an accurate summary of its place on the net. As the words imply, a Meta Title names a site while a Meta Description describes the page to search engines and directories. In general, the Description can be considered a lengthened extension of the Title.

Writing Your Meta Description
When forming your Description, use common sense, logic and a touch of creative writing. If you haven't done so already, create your Meta Title first. Once you have the keywords and text used there, you can use that information to help in writing your Description.

The text amount should not surpass 150 words. It is meant to be a short rundown of your site, so keep it concise and to the point.

Most importantly- include major keywords in your description. There is more room in the Description tag, so include more keywords. Make certain they are specific, relevant and pertinent to the major items you sale. Always place your top keywords first within the text.

Avoid spam. Repeating keywords (more than 5 times) in your Meta Description may be viewed negatively by search engine spiders.

The Description is used as the summary in some search engine listings. So while keeping the text as relevant as possible, also make it inviting to potential customers. If a search engine uses a Meta Description and you don't have one, it will pull random text from your page. This can confuse visitors and may result in a lost visit to your site. Make sure you have Descriptions that educate, rather than confuse.

Include Meta Descriptions in all areas of your site. It is important for a site's homepage, as well as each Product and Category page. For these specific pages, try to keep the Description at about 50 words, roughly 2-3 sentences long.

Once you are finished writing, check your text from an outside perspective. Make sure it describes your site's overall purpose, products and entices you to go inside.

You should be able to generate quality traffic to your website, you have to convert that traffic as consumers for your business and you have to make them loyal for a long time. Then only, the online presence is going to add to your business.

Research tells that more than seventy five percent of web traffic comes from search engines like Google, MSN and so on. So, it is very important for your website to have higher rankings on these search engines for the keywords with which your potential customers search on the internet for information. Hence, improving search engine ranking is very important for your business. And also, maintaining that search engine raking for at least the chosen keywords is also very important.

There are lots of things that have to be done by any web master if he wants to have a very good search engine ranking. First the content should be quality content and you should be updating it quite regularly. You should have keyword rich content. You should first do a lot of research in finding out keywords which your prospective customers will be using while searching on the internet. Then you have to get content accordingly. This can immensely help in improving search engine ranking. But, never use content which is only focusing on keywords and have no substance. You have to strike a good balance between the both.

Google uses Page rank concept to rank the websites. Hence, you should have quality links that are referring to your website. This can be done by getting loads and loads of reciprocal links. You should do a lot of research to find the companies which will be interested in participating in the reciprocal link programs of yours. Even though, this consumes a lot of time, as a web master you should do it to improve search engine ranking.

It's not a better idea to concentrate only on tier-1 search engines. Try and get into top ten rankings of other search engines also. For example, if your site is a career site then it is advisable to get good ranking on search engines which are mainly dedicated for job portals like bixee.com in INDIA. This helps quite a lot in improving your search engine ranking.

Search Engine Optimization

Search engine optimization is more a process of logic and common sense than the world of search engine optimization strategy specialists would like us to do believe.

Whilst it has been believed for the longest possible time that we have absolutely no control over the search engines, and that only those with mystical powers can control its ebb and flow, we have in recent times learned that this is in fact not true.

Search engines have exactly the same goals that we as website owners have, and that is to present its users with the most relevant contextual information.

The entire process of search engine optimization is in fact far less about tricking the search engines, but rather actually making a website user-friendly and relevant to people who are looking for what you have to offer.

Search engine optimization as an Internet marketing strategy is in fact just as relevant for getting your website listed in the organic search engine rankings, as it is for pay per click advertising, and other fundamental marketing basics.

The idea behind search engine optimization is that your website should present the information about your products and services in a clearly understandable "highlighted" manner which is obvious to people when they first arrive at your website.

Elements such as heading tags, emphasized text, and clear product or service descriptions is as much point of relevance to the search engines as it is to your visitors.

To completely demystify the whole concept of search engine optimization simply take an objective look at your website, and decide how relevant and easy your content is to identify in relation to your product or service.

Chances are that your website clearly identifies what it is that you're offering, search engine traffic will naturally follow suit. This is not to say that you should abandon all search engine optimization strategies, but rather take a less technical look at your adjectives.

Once you have identified your objectives, you will see that this is no different from the search engines, and so rather than working against the process you can work in tandem with those of the big players such as Google, Yahoo, and MSN to build a sustainable flow of organic search engine traffic.

Search Engine Robots

The Internet has come a long way from its inception back in the 1980’s. Not only has it become a powerful way to market products to the masses, it has had to build some technological muscle to keep up with its ever changing landscape. One such way this has happened is in search engine technology.

Anyone who has used the Internet has invariably used a search engine to find the information they required. And while the use of these portals is easy, the technology behind them is complex. Search engine sites utilize a little helper called a spider, robot or crawler to ensure that the content on a website is valid, up-to-date and worthy of a high placement on a search list.

Robots will revisit a website on a regular basis to see what changes have been made and include them in the search engine data. Sites that are changed frequently will receive visits that are more regular and thereby receive more updates in their search engine listing. A few steps can be taken to keep the robots happy and help your site remain at the top of search engine lists.

First, make sure the content on your site is up-to-date. If a site has remained unchanged for several months or even years, it might be seen as irrelevant material and receive a lower search engine placement. Second, consider the size of and number of hyphens in your URL. If a name has more than two hyphens, it raises suspicions about the content and could be deemed filterable SPAM.

Site redirects are also red flags for the search robots. While sites might need to do this on a temporary basis as they are making updates or modifications to their pages, it is important that these are only used for a very short period of time. Long-term redirects equal a site that is not valid in the mind of the robot. Finally, the more external links to your site, the higher regard it will have. External links build credibility and show that other sites consider you worthy to link up.

Search engine robots are a safeguard that keep us surfing smoothly on the World Wide Web. They ensure that the content we read is up-to-date and relevant. By keep their needs in mind when marketing your website, you will gain higher search engine rankings and higher traffic counts.
