If you have been wondering if Reciprocal linking is still a good idea, then read below. I'll give you Google's opinion on it, as well as mistakes to avoid when linking with other sites and how to correctly do a link exchange.
Google, says yes, links to your site are important! They say to help you get a bigger search engine ranking, make sure other sites link to yours.
By having other sites linking to yours, it helps Google's crawlers find your site and as well gives your site a greater visibility in their search results.
Google uses their PageRank with sophisticated text-matching techniques to display pages that are both important and relevant to each search.
Google interprets links to your site as a "vote" for your site from the other sites. Google looks at more than the sheer volume of votes, or links a page receives, it also analyzes the page that casts the vote. "Votes" from sites that Google considers "important" will weigh more heavily in determining your search engine ranking.
Therefore, do NOT go out and try to get as many links as possible. Google calls these "unnatural links" that are placed there specifically to make your site look more popular to the search engines. These types of links are link farms, or linking schemes and doorway pages.
Google says in their Webmaster Guidelines:
"Don't participate in link schemes designed to increase your site's ranking or PageRank. In particular, avoid links to web spammers or "bad neighborhoods" on the web, as your own ranking may be affected adversely by those links."
Link Farms:
I am seeing more and more webmasters asking for "three way links". For example, if you place their link on your site, they will place your link on a different site other than their main site. They try to justify it as a better solution than reciprocating links from your site to theirs by saying it's a one way link to your site from the "link farm".
Therefore, the "three way linkers" do not have any links on their main site. They are getting higher quality sites to link to them, making it appear that their site is more popular.
You get the short end of the stick! Your site's link is now on a site that is nothing more than a "link farm".
Link farms are sites that have nothing but a huge directory of links. The search engines do NOT see these as "important". So therefore, you have just hurt your site by agreeing to a three way link exchange.
There are many reciprocal link management services and link farm products. You will recognize them by the template-based emails offering to exchange links. All of them will want to place your link in nothing but a directory of links (a link farm), where it does not do your site any good at all and will actually harm your search engine ranking.
Awhile back when I realized what was going on, I began declining all "three way link" exchange offers. However, I did keep those in my links directory, which had been submitted before that. Now I see that was also a mistake. My PageRank dropped a point. The PageRanks of my links directory pages that had once been between 1 to 3, dropped to 0.
Therefore I have cleaned up my Links Directory and deleted all sites that were "three way links". You may want to do the same if you want to improve your search engine ranking.
How To Properly Do Reciprocal Link Exchanges:
DO go to websites that are relevant to your site's theme. Check to see if they have a "Links" page or it may be listed as "Link Exchange Program". These are usually listed on websites in the lower left hand or right hand columns or at the bottom of the site.
Follow their instructions for submitting your link, after all you are the one asking them, not the other way around. If they ask you to send an email, do it. If they ask you to fill out a form to submit your request for a link exchange, do so.
Do NOT send them an email without even visiting their site. I get so many emails that say, "I just visited your wonderful site. blah, blah, blah, it would be to both our advantage to exchange links"
I know they did not visit my site, if they did they would have seen the link to my Link Exchange Program which clearly states that I do not do exchanges by email, and they must click on the link and fill out the request form.
I hope this helps you in understanding the significance of links exchanges and how to avoid the pitfalls when building your link exchange program.

The Triple Play Of Referrals
Did you know that there are two types of referrals? Those that come on their own from doing a good job for your clients, and those that you need to generate with a referral marketing program. When you look to use referrals as your main source of leads, you must send your message to the audience that is likely to hear them and respond. This, of course is your target market. As obvious as this may sound, many marketers will network to the wrong audience. Remember those after-hour business network meetings? Nice people, but usually not our market.
I would like to introduce an opportunity to hit the WOMM! jackpot. What I call the Triple Play of Referrals. It is the new and upcoming business called Home Staging. What is Home Staging?
Today, when a homeowner wants to sell, some are hiring a "Home Stager". Home Staging is a design system of creating a "product" out of your home. Making it, in a sense, a "model" home. As any successful product, your home needs to appeal to as many of it’s' target market customers as possible. The goal is to make a good first impression, allowing the buyer to imagine themselves living in your home.
The idea is to de-personalize and remove the clutter from your home. Additionally, a staged home should have great "curb appeal"! That is, looking good from the street in order to entice the buyer into the home. When a home is staged, it will feature each room at its best. You want to create a showcase, so it can sell at the highest price and in the shortest time.
What Stagers do The initial staging consultation is conducted with a visit to the home. The Stager will walk through the home and take notes of its condition. Back at the office an "action plan" is written with suggestions on the work to be done before the staging can take place. Such work might be some packing photos and the collectibles, cleaning the closets and garage, and painting the worn areas. Once such work is complete, the staging of the home can take place. Staging might include rearranging or renting furniture, adding some accessories, or bringing in plants or flowers. Decorators are naturally suited to offering Home Staging since it is a natural extension of their services. The costs to stage depends on the extent of the work, but it is a highly valued service since it can bring back several times the investment by getting a higher selling price. When to Stage?
You will want to stage as soon as you decide to sell the home. With the help of a Realtor, you will have a "brokers' tour" and an "open house". A staged home will stand out among the other homes during these promotional events. By the way, it's never too late to stage a home. It's good to point out, that if a home remains unsold for an extended period of time; it could earn a reputation of being "hard to sell". You should stage your home so that it will maximize the traffic and sell quickly.
Marketing
Realtors love the concept of Home Staging. They are open to listening to your message about your new service. You should market your Home Staging service to Realtors. There are many reasons why Realtors will encourage their clients to stage.
The number one reason is that a Staged Home sells faster and at a higher price then a home that is unstaged. A Staged Home looks great and photographs well. Realtors will have a competitive edge over other similarly priced homes. Sellers feel that their Realtor is demonstrating a real commitment to marketing their home. Finally, why sell a home in "as-is" condition, when you can sell a home that is ready to "move-in".
The Referral Triple Play
Why is home staging a great source of leads? In this new and exciting business, you have an opportunity to make your business aware to three people of influence: the Realtor, the buyer and the seller.
Of all professions that can refer decorators, it is the Realtor that has the greatest influence. It is all about being in the right place, at the right time when decorating decisions are about to be made. Then there is the seller, who would be your staging client. If you do a good staging job, there is an opportunity to decorate her new home as well. Did you know that over 75% of sellers move within 10 miles of their former residence? Finally, there is the buyer. What a way to be introduced to someone just moving into their new home. They purchased the home, love your work, and hopefully will hire you for more.
The term "Staging" is a registered trademark of Staged Homes.com where I received an "Accredited Staging Professional" (ASP) designation after a 3 day course. Home staging is a terrific business; however, the referral opportunities are the greatest bonus. In the few months that I have been offering and marketing Home Staging, I have found this to be an amazing source of great referrals.

Harnessing the Power of Directory Submission
With so many web sites populating the World Wide Web today, it is but inevitable that these sites become pitted against each other in order to attract the attention of the myriads of readers out there. Anyone who has established and tried to maintain a web site would know that it is one of the toughest things to do – to emerge on top of the search results of any search engine and thus establish a wider base of audience. Yet with the competition come a lot of tools as well. Competition does not mean death for a web site, in fact it is the other way. If you only know what tools and means are available and how to make optimal use of them, you will see your web site come out at the top.
One of the most powerful methods by which you can get your web site noticed by people from anywhere is the world is directory submission. The term itself is pretty explanatory – you submit your site to web directories. The result is that you get incoming one way links to your site. What is the significance of these links? Getting a lot of incoming one way links to your site means that you will obtain a higher position in the search engine results page. This of course translates to more people becoming aware of your site.
In order to make the most of out web directories, you have to know how they work. Each web directory has its own set of rules and criteria. There are no clear and cut rules as to standardization but in general, you have to submit the Anchor Text (that is, the title of your website), a description of your web site, and the URL of your site. In addition to this information, some directories allow you to add meta data such as a key words. Knowing the type of information that web directories make use of, you have to optimize the way you present this information. Using the best possible words for both the anchor text and the description is one way to get the most out of directory submission.
Undoubtedly, the process of submitting to hundreds of web directories can eat up a lot of a person’s time. If you have a lot of time to kill, it would be no problem. However, for those who have other responsibilities to attend to, there is another option – directory submission services. There are entities in existence whose aim is to assist web site owners when it comes to submitting their sites to various web directories. This is a very efficient way of going about directory submission. Aside from manually submitting your site to different directories, they can also help you come up with various anchor texts to increase your exposure. They will give you guarantees as to how many incoming links you can get. In short, they will do all the work for you.
There are a lot of directory submission services out there. All you need to do is check what they have to offer. See if their services suit your needs and preferences. Once you come to terms with them, you won’t have to worry about submitting to web directories anymore.

Link - Popularity - 2 Secrets to Skyrocket Your Inbound Links
When I got started on my quest for internet marketing success, I had to study a great deal on different subject’s areas pertaining to internet marketing. You name it, from how to build a website, how to writing articles for website content, search engine optimization, email list building, affiliate marketing, creating my own product to marketing the product.
When I set up my first website, I thought if I submit my website to the search engines it will automatically attract traffic but to my dismay weeks went by and no traffic. That is when a friend asked me the question. Do you have any inbound links to your site? I said "what is inbound link or link popularity you are talking about?'' He then went to explain it to me. There are millions of websites online and the more inbound links a website has, the more link popularity it has over another website which has less inbound.
You build a website for traffic to find it when they search for your keyword. The search engines drive traffic to your website and the more inbound links you have, the more popular the search engine sees your website over your competition. Some search engines will drop your website if there are no inbound links. This makes acquiring links to your website a great deal. Let's consider 2 secrets to increase the link popularity to your website.
1. Articles writing - This is one of the easiest and most effective way to get inbound links. Write articles on your keyword with your website address incorporated in the byline or signature of your articles and submit them to articles directories. Checkout goarticle.com and ezinearticles.com. In about a week or 2 you will see inbound links to your site.
2. Get your website link to websites with higher page rank, 5 and above. This is huge. If you are able to do that it will transform your website. Also try and get your sub pages link to your main page so that the search engines can assign link popularity to the sub pages.
Implement these two keys and your links popularity will increase dramatically. I have been able to do it so can you? Great deals of marketers are making money online through these ideas so start now.

The Power Of Link Building
The Web is built on links, and a solid link building strategy is absolutely essential for any business that wants to thrive online. In essence links that point back to your site do two things: they bring you targeted traffic and they enhance your search engine rankings.
By placing your links on another site that is related to your content, you can bring visitors to your site who are interested in the sort of content you offer. And Google, king of the search engines, places more value (and therefore greater rankings) on sites with multiple links pointing back to them.
I’m sure you’ve heard just about every urban myth imaginable regarding the right way vs. the wrong way to generate links back to your site. Let’s forget about all the hoopla for now and look at the simple basics that apply to a good link building campaign.
The first obvious step is to identify placings that offer you targeted exposure. If you have a website about auto repair tips, you need to find sites and directory categories pertaining to auto repair and place your links there.
Simple enough right? So let’s focus on some of the specific types of sites you should be looking to get links from.
Link Directories:
This almost goes without saying, but just to be safe I’ll include it. One way link directories are a good place to submit your links.
Avoid services that offer to broker reciprocal linking between you and other webmasters, as these programs are often viewed as link farms by Google and can get your site booted from the search engine rankings.
Article Submission:
A fantastic way to acquire links back to your site is to write articles related to your site content and submit these to article directories and newsletter publishers. At the end of each article you write you’ll include a resource box (see mine below) that provides links back to your website.
Forum Signatures:
Join forums that are related to the theme of your site and get involved in the discussion. Please do not join a forum and just post a blatant ad about your site, as this will get you ridiculed and possibly deleted; actually join in the conversations, and include a link to your website in your forum signature.
Blog Comments:
You definitely need a blog of your own, but that’s a subject for other articles. In this piece about link building I want you to understand the power of simply posting comments on other people’s blogs.
Find 10 to 20 blogs that relate to your website, and bookmark them or subscribe to their RSS feeds. A few times each week, visit these blogs and post comments on some of the more interesting articles.
You see, when you fill out the comment form you will be asked for your name and website URL, so you can create a hyperlink with your name or business name that leads right back to your site. Be sure that your comments are legitimate contributions and not just some silly ad for your website.
As blogs are often updated regularly, and have many incoming links to them, your comments (and therefore your link backs) are likely to receive a lot of traffic from search engine spiders and real people. So blog comments are a simple but very powerful method for linking back to your site.
Take the contents of this article and put them to use. This is a totally easy, but definitely effective outline for starting a long-term link building campaign that will bring you lots of traffic and good standing with the search engines.

How to Use Google PR to Incite A Web Sales Explosion
"Page Rank," sometimes abbreviated PR, was developed by Google's founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin. Here is how Google describes the "Page Rank" system: Page Rank relies on the uniquely democratic nature of the web by using its vast link structure as an indicator of an individual page's value. In essence, Google interprets a link from page A to page B as a vote, by page A, for page B. But, Google looks at more than the sheer volume of votes, or links a page receives; it also analyzes the page that casts the vote. Votes cast by pages that are themselves "important" weigh more heavily and help to make other pages "important." Important, high-quality sites receive a higher Page Rank, which Google remembers each time it conducts a search. Of course, important pages mean nothing to you if they don't match your query. So, Google combines Page Rank with sophisticated text-matching techniques to find pages that are both important and relevant to your search. Google goes far beyond the number of times a term appears on a page and examines all aspects of the page's content (and the content of the pages linking to it) to determine if it's a good match for your query. Page Rank is rated on a scale of PR-0 to PR-10. A site with a ranking of PR-10 is much higher than one rated PR-0. When a site has a high page ranking, there will be more opportunities for search engine users to locate and view the site. Thus, more traffic will be routed to that site because it is viewed by the web community as a valuable resource.
What Does This Mean For You?
Well, it all goes back to link pop... If you have a ton of quality, relevant, incoming one-way links to your website, your Google PR is going to shoot through the roof!
A high Google PR means more exposure for you. Heightened exposure leads to more visitors, and more visitors basically means bigger sales. Simple enough.
Ask any successful web developer how to inexpensively gain quality non-reciprocal links and they'll tell you: Find and exchange links with as many websites that relate to your own and also submit to as many directories as you can.
Finding websites to exchange links with can be a very time consuming process if done manually but there are now many software titles on the internet that will make the job a lot simpler and save you loads of time as well and one of the best is called Backlink Submitter and it can be found at http://www.backlinksubmitter.com
Don't forget about directories, they are viewed by web users as a quick and easy way to find valuable resources tailored specifically to their search. As a result of directories' popularity, a submission to a lot of them will generate a great deal of targeted traffic.
There's only one problem: The directory submission process is long and tedious. Some directories, such as Yahoo! Directory, cost up to $300 for one submission. If you're operating on a tight budget, you are better off spreading your money over many smaller directory submissions. Unfortunately, that can take a lot of time.
If you're looking for a better solution, http://www.directorysubmitter.com to find out how to get listed on 1000 of the most popular specialized directories online in a matter of a few hours… all for less than the cost of one website advertisement.
